MISSION, BELIEFS, AND PROGRAMS

OUR MISSION

The mission of Bald Ridge Lodge (BRL) is to provide safe and stable support to young men in the Group Home, Independent Living Program, and Community Based Services, in a manner that nurtures the youth, strengthens healthy relationships, and aids young men in their transition to adulthood. This is accomplished through partnerships with caregivers and a community seeking to care for its own.

A BOY’S STORY

OUR BELIEFS

We believe we can change lives.

We believe in the power of bringing the resources of community together.

We believe it is a privilege to work with, and on behalf of, our youth.

We believe that providing a safe and nurturing home-like environment is essential to the care and well being of our boys.

OUR PROGRAMS

GROUP HOME PROGRAM

Bald Ridge Lodge’s Group Home serves young men (age 12 to 21) who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. At Bald Ridge Lodge, our residents live in a safe & therapeutic environment where their basic and therapeutic needs are met. They receive counseling, educational support, mentoring, and life skills. Staff build therapeutic relationships with boys they care for 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Staff use the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA) to help teens learn to channel their intensity into greatness and experience success firsthand. Staff refuse to give attention to negative behaviors, relentlessly create experiences of success while emphasizing positive behaviors, and are absolutely clear with consequences and limits. Youth in our program are able to experience "normal" teen life including having friends, attending public school, participating in extracurricular activities, and achieving teen milestones such as getting a job and learning to drive.

AFTERCARE PROGRAM

Bald Ridge Lodge offers Aftercare services to two types of former residents of the Group Home: those living as adults and those reunified with family. The Aftercare program provides coaching, training and referrals to community resources to help former residents (and their support systems) maintain successful and stable lives.

INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM

BRL’s Independent Living Program provides housing and case management for young men age 18-26 seeking independence, but not yet financially/emotionally ready. BRL assumes initial financial responsibility and gradually reduces oversight while residents take on increasing financial and personal responsibility. A Life Coach works closely with youth to prepare them for social, emotional, and financial independence while connecting them to life-long supportive relationships and educational/career opportunities.

COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS

Bald Ridge Lodge provides group training and one-on-one coaching in Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA) for families and professionals in the community who wish to build the inner resources and positive character qualities of youth in their lives, especially those with intense behaviors. The training supports Aftercare clients as well as the community at large.
