A New Calm Space
The boys at Bald Ridge Lodge, most of whom have experienced trauma, Autism, or developmental disabilities, can find the world around them to be an overstimulating and difficult place to process. To address this, a Sensory Room was created, funded by the Rotary Club of North Forsyth and other community donations. Recently, Nicole Brunton, a UGA Social Work student and an expert in sensory spaces, helped set it up. The room includes soothing lights, weighted blankets, touchable surfaces, and calming sensory items. Since its introduction, the boys have found it helpful for decompressing after school or when feeling anxious. We are grateful to those who contributed to making this calming space possible.
